Dining out during Christmas & New Year’s Eve
Posted Under: Blog, Czech Holidays & Traditions, For Foodies
Christmas in the Czech Republic is usually an occasion to stay home, watch the carps having a swim in the bathtub before they end up on the plates (yes, for real) and enjoy some time with your family. We try to honor this tradition by putting on a traditional Christmas dinner at Sir Toby’s every year on the 24th of December. So please, do join us, you are warmly invited!
In case you would like to go out on a date night, or you are looking for options to dine out the following days, here is the ultimate Sir Toby’s guide to dining during the holidays…
Fine Dining

Picture: Aromi
Looking for something special, maybe even something slightly fancy? Prague’s most famous Italian restaurant Aromi offers a set menu on Christmas Eve (1.950 CZK/2.950 CZK with wine pairing). Actually, quite a good deal for a five course menu!
Their New Year’s Eve menu is a bit out of our personal price range, but if you are a lover of sea food and fresh fish, you might consider the 3.750 CZK or even the 4.950 if you want to get tipsy, too. Reservations via email info@aromi.cz or by phone +420 222 713 222
Prague’s Favorite

Picture: Čestr
Prague’s best restaurant - at least according to a recent poll - Čestr is closed for Christmas Eve but open from 12-22 on December 25 and 12-23 on December 26. They do not have a special set on December 31, but they are open “from 12 until anytime you like” and the regular menu might be more economical anyway. It’s for you if you like a good steak and a sleek, modern atmosphere.
Hipster’s Choice

Picture: Eska
Eska is located in Karlin, just across the river from Sir Toby’s. It has become a lively district during the last years with all the workers from the nearby office buildings boosting new businesses, especially on the food front (yes, this is called gentrification, but advanced dining options are at least one positive aspect of it). Eska features industrial design with wooden elements, an in-house bakery and quality cuisine which is usually suitable for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Closed on Christmas Eve but open from 10-23.30 on December 25, 9-23.30 on December 26 and with open end on New Year’s Eve.
Laid back in the Pub

Picture: U Kurelů
Great beers, snacks, burgers and quesadillas are the options in Žižkov’s classic neighborhood pub U Kurelů. They will open their doors to hungry strangers on Christmas Eve from 17-23, be closed the following two days and serve a special menu on December 31. For Holiday Dinner reservations, send them an email to ukurelu@thetavern.cz.
Veggie Holidays

Picture: Etnosvět
Etnosvet offers a vegetarian tasting menu for 2.590 CZK (+890 CZK including wine pairing) with complimentary DJ sounds. The cozy atmosphere, cocktail creative bartenders and upscale vegetarian cuisine make Etnosvet the popular place that it is.
International Atmosphere
The (in)famous Hard Rock Cafe offers a festive menu throughout the whole month of December - including the holidays. 3 courses go for only 650 CZK, count with 850 CZK if you want the welcome drink included. New Year’s Eve will be celebrated with a special as well, menu, Queen tribute band and unlimited drinks included in the 2.950 CZK package. Tables have to be booked in advance here.
