Vegetarian Restaurants in Prague
When it comes to vegetarian and vegan food, Prague has a rather bad reputation. And indeed, the traditional cuisine involves a lot of meat. If this is not for you, you should still give Czech restaurants a chance and if it is just for a beer and a "nakládaný hermelin" - a pickled camembert-like cheese with spices, usually served with bread and pepper. Believe me, it is a perfect preparation for a night out.
Otherwise, Prague has a thriving vegetarian and vegan scene and there are plenty of options to explore. I'll give you some hints below!
1. The Classics: Lehkla Hlava (Clear Head) & Maitrea
Lehkla Hlava and Maitrea have been on the scene for many years and they are still very popular. For good reasons: their restaurants are really cozy, service is friendly, relaxed and professional at the same time. Their food is high quality and you will probably spend more than a few minutes with the extensive menu. My favorite in Lehka Hlava is the goat cheese served with potatoe gratin, fresh baby spinache and walnuts. In Maitrea, try the avocado salad with grilled tempeh in parmesan crust.
The restaurants are also conveniently located in the old town: Maitrea is right behind the Tyn Church on Old Town Square, Lehka Hlava is just a few meters from the Charles Bridge. Reservation in advance is strongly recommended!

2. The Fancy Ones: LoVeg & Estrella
LoVeg serves strictly vegan food just below the Prague Castle. They even have a little roof terrace with a beautiful view! It is a bit more pricey than the other options, but still very reasonable, especially when you are coming from the EUR zone... Check the menu here (also in English)

I have been in Estrella only once, but was more than convinced by the home made pasta with goat cheese. The atmosphere is a bit more stylish, less "spiritual" - but still cozy! Good wine as well.

3. Veggie Fast Food: LovingHut Dhaba Beas & Bhojan
LovingHut is on a Vietnamese vegan mission. They also offer raw cakes. Some of their branches work as self service bistros, some are proper restaurants with service. The closest one to Sir Toby's is close to Strossmayerovo Namesti (tram 1,25 only 3 stops ), on Dukelských hrdinů 18.
Bhojan is a vegetarian Indian Restaurant that serves small thalis for 105 CZK and large thalis for 125 CZK. It is also right beside Strossmayerovo Namesti, just two doors up from Cross Cafe on Milady Horakove 831/3.
Dhaba Beas is a vegetarian self service bistro serving mainly Indian cuisine. There are usually more options available on the buffet during lunch time (I especially recommend all their dishes with paneer cheese), but they have a happy hour in the evening, one hour before closing time (which is not really late in the evening, so it is not the best option for dinner). Check their website to see where the 6 branches are located - if you are out sightseeing in the city center, there will surely be one close to you.
5. The Hipster: Plevel
One of the favorite lunch spots of our dear colleagues at the Czech Inn Hostel - and rightfully so! Beautiful cozy interior with a lot of wood - updated grandma style. They also have raw options for lunch and dinner. And especially nice: vegetarian versions of traditional Czech dishes! Two branches in the city, one really close to Wenceslas Square, the other one in the nice local neighbourhood Vršovice (good for walks and exploring!).

There are countless more options - if you are around the Žižkov area, try Gouranga. And Vegtral is in a lovely part of the city not so far from Sir Toby's... Just ask us for directions!
Dobrou chuť!
